If you are looking for a reptile pet, you and your children may be drawn towards the visual appeal of a turtle. There is nothing not to like about them. They make no noise, easy to feed and look after, and, as we said, children love them. However, the answer to the question; are pet turtles friendly? may have an answer that makes you reconsider the pet that you want. Unfortunately, turtles do not share the same affinity with people as we do with them.
Turtles are solitary creatures who like their “own time.” They do not have affection feelings, and they do not enjoy being picked up. Furthermore, they do not like toys, nor do they like cuddles. That leaves their owners, at best, as mere spectators to the life of a turtle, and at worst, caretakers for sometimes possibly 50+ years! However, those traits are something that some people look for in their pets. They enjoy watching them, making sure they have the habitat that they need, and watching them grow.
Ensure that you know what you are getting into before you buy a turtle!
