Are Pet Ferrets Legal?

As ferrets are becoming more popular as time goes on, there is a question of legality about them, and where you can and cannot own one. Are pet ferrets legal where you live? Unfortunately, that is a more challenging question to answer than most. A lot of countries see them as rodents, thus they have rules about owning them as pets. Places like the UK, Germany, Canada, Hungary, and a few other countries have no regulations surrounding the ownership of ferrets. However, in the United States, each state has its own governance and ruling about owning them.

Ferrets are completely banned in California, the District of Columbia, and Hawaii, while 28 states have regulations that require adherence to for ownership, and the other eighteen have no restrictions at all. Australia has banned them in four main areas, with the other three having strict regulations. If you live in the UK, it can come as a bit of a shock to find that they are banned in some areas of the world. So, if you want a pet ferret, you need to check with your local regulations before you get one.
