Many people like snakes as pets. Most of them will start off with a beginner snake, such as a corn snake. However, as time goes on, they like the idea of having larger snakes as pets. One of the largest in the world is the python. Of which, African Rock pythons are one of the largest, too. So, are African rock pythons good pets? Providing you know exactly what you are getting yourself into when you have one of these creatures as a pet, you should be ok.
However, they are certainly not for people who have little experience, nor for people who do not have a lot of spare space. An adult African Rock Python will need a vivarium that is at least 7ft long by 2ft tall and deep. However, females will need a bigger enclosure if you have a large one. Not to mention that you will have to feed them rabbits when they are adults, even if it is only every 4-6 weeks. Heating and ventilation must be top-notch, too, with good ventilation and around 90F. That can be difficult given the size of their vivarium.
