Many people like snakes as pets. Most will start with a beginner snake, such as a corn snake. However, as time passes, they like having larger snakes as pets. One of the largest in the world is the python. African Rock pythons are one of the largest, too. So, are African rock pythons good pets? You should be ok if you know exactly what you are getting yourself into when you have one of these creatures as a pet.
However, they are certainly not for people with little experience, nor for people who do not have a lot of spare space. An adult African Rock Python will need a vivarium at least 7ft long by 2ft tall and deep. However, females will need a bigger enclosure if they have a large one. Not to mention that you will have to feed them rabbits when they are adults, even if it is only every 4-6 weeks. Heating and ventilation must be top-notch, too, with good ventilation and around 90F. That can be difficult, given the size of their vivarium.
