Many people, especially those who do not already own a millipede, think there are very few species to choose from as pets. Some even think that a millipede is a millipede, and that’s it. The truth is that there are almost twelve thousand millipede species worldwide. That makes them the largest group of myriapods in existence. However, that can make the choice of pet pretty difficult, too. If money and care are no issue for you, one of the most popular species is the African Giant Millipede.
If you want something smaller and easier to keep, you should look for millipedes such as the Florida Ivory and the Bumblebee millipede. The Floria Ivory is probably the easiest to keep if you have to pick between the two. They are pretty active, too. However, as with all millipedes, they are more active at night and tend to keep themselves buried during the day. Most of them need a humid setup, with temperatures not much higher than room temperature, and they don’t need a huge amount of space.
